About Blue Leaf Microgreens

Blue Leaf Microgreens is a microgreens startup established in Tokyo in 2023 by a California-born founder who wanted to spread the wonderful benefits of microgreens to Japan. What sets my microgreens apart from other products available in Japan are the following key differences.

Same-Day Harvest and Delivery for Maximum Freshness

I always harvest on the same day of delivery to ensure that the size, flavor, and quality are consistent and match the customers' needs. They are grown in Tokyo and delivered on the same day, making them the freshest product available in Japan. This commitment to same-day freshness is what truly differentiates us from other suppliers.

Completely Customizable Size and Maturity

If the customer wants to make the product larger or smaller, or cut shorter or longer, I can accommodate. This level of customization allows restaurants and chefs to get exactly what they need for their specific culinary creations.

Free Product Development Service

I offer a free product development service. If a customer would like a microgreens variety that I don't currently offer, I will source organic seed if available and develop a new microgreen for them, which will then be added to my menu. In this way, all customers become part of the Blue Leaf Microgreens community and contribute to the growth of the project while getting fresh ingredients for their own business or restaurant.

100% Organic and Clean Growing Methods

I don't use any synthetic growing ingredients. All microgreens are grown 100% organically — just seed, high quality organic coconut fiber, water, and sometimes a small amount of organic kombu extract. No pesticides, just clean simple microgreens that are safe to eat.

40 Unique Varieties

I offer over 40 unique varieties of microgreens, each carefully selected from my extensive growing experience. We also have a rich selection of unique microgreens that are not commonly seen in the Japanese market.

Founder from California, the Birthplace of Microgreens

Matthew Peterson, owner of Blue Leaf Microgreens, has been familiar with agriculture since childhood at his grandfather's avocado farm in his native California, USA. After studying agriculture at Kansas State University, he was involved in the microgreens business in California, the birthplace of microgreens, from 2016. After moving to Japan in 2019, he worked for a German-based hydroponic company doing equipment maintenance and vegetable quality control before becoming independent and establishing Blue Leaf Microgreens in 2023. Currently living in Tokyo with his Japanese wife and child, he grows the highest quality microgreens using his extensive microgreens experience and knowledge.
